Will an NFC ring work with your iPhone or Android?
Separate NFC hardware, background reading, and opening a profile. Use this checklist before promising a tap will work on every phone.
THE SHORT ANSWER
Compatibility depends on the phone, settings, tag, and receiving experience. NFC support alone does not mean every iPhone or Android can open a networking profile in the same way. Test the actual phone and keep a direct-link fallback.
On iPhone: reading support is not one universal promise
Apple introduced background NFC tag reading with iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR. Its documented flow shows a notification that the recipient taps to open the associated destination. Do not translate older iPhone NFC hardware support into a blanket promise of the same no-app background experience.
Apple also documents conditions that interrupt background reading, including camera use, Wallet activity, and Airplane Mode. Check the current documentation for the exact model and software in front of you. A working demo on one phone is not a certification for every device.

On Android: check the device and NFC setting
Android's documentation describes tag discovery with the screen unlocked and NFC enabled. Not every Android device has NFC hardware. Manufacturer differences also make a single positioning instruction unreliable.
Ask the recipient to check their model's instructions rather than change settings blindly. Move slowly around the phone's documented NFC area and pause briefly. If repeated attempts interrupt the conversation, stop and send the link instead.

Use a two-part troubleshooting test
First ask whether the phone detected anything. No detection points you toward compatibility, positioning, or settings. A detected link that fails to load points you toward connectivity or the destination. These are different problems and should not be treated as one mysterious ring failure.
Second, open the same public URL directly in the phone's browser. If the page also fails there, repeated tapping will not fix the page. If it loads, inspect the tap flow separately. This is a diagnostic checklist, not a claim that Ping has tested every phone.
- Confirm the ring is configured and the destination is correct.
- Test away from competing tags and accessories.
- Keep the recipient in control of opening and saving.
- Use a direct link when troubleshooting would spoil the introduction.
